Quick Verdict

One light pass and one eyebrow looked microbladed next to the bare one. The Maybelline TattooStudio brow pomade fills, defines, and stays put all day. The catch: press too heavy your first time and you’ll walk out with really dark brows.

Buy if you:

  • have thinning or sparse brows over 50
  • want that clean microbladed-looking edge without the procedure
  • have one brow with less hair at the front to fill in
  • switched off powder and want something that lasts all day

I Did One Brow First and Couldn’t Believe the Difference

I lifted the brush, did one eyebrow, and just looked at the two side by side. The filled one had a distinctive line, a clean edge, the kind of look you’d pay for at a microblading appointment. The bare one looked like it always had. That’s the moment I knew this Maybelline TattooStudio brow pomade was staying in my routine.

I was using powder for a long, long time. This is just so much better. If your brows have thinned out over the years like mine, this is the kind of fix that takes about a minute and makes your whole face look pulled together.

What’s in the Tube and How It Works

It’s a pomade with a dual-ended applicator. One end is a spoolie, that little brush I can never remember the name for, and the other is an angled sculpting brush. The shade I used is Soft Brown. The formula is the whole reason I switched: it’s smudge-proof and waterproof, and it’s built to stay on for 24 hours.

The Microbladed Look Without the Needle

The angled brush is what sealed it. One stroke along the bottom and I had a hard, defined edge I’ve never gotten from powder, the kind that makes it look like someone drew a blueprint for your brow and then followed it. It defines the shape and deposits color in the same pass, so there’s no second step.

Here’s the part I love most for thinning brows. I have a little less hair at the front of one eyebrow, just how I’m made. I filled it in with the pomade and it made my brows look a lot more even. One side looked a touch darker after, so I added a tiny bit more to the lighter one. See how you can layer it? If you want really dark or really noticeable brows, you just keep adding color in.

And it stays on all day. It won’t come off super easy, which is great. That’s the thing powder never did for me, by lunchtime my brows had always faded.

Go Lightly, I Learned This the Hard Way

The first time I used it, I pressed a little heavy and ended up with really dark brows. This is pigmented, so a light hand matters. Once you know that, it’s easy, but nobody warns you on the first pass.

The other thing is your opposite brow. It’s always harder to do your opposite. I brush the eyebrow up first, then go in with a light hand, and I still find the second side trickier than the first every single time. It’s not a deal-breaker, just something you’ll get the hang of with practice.

Who This Is Actually For

If you’re over 50 and your brows have been thinning for years, this is made for you. The fill-and-define combo handles the two problems mature brows have at once: sparse spots and lost shape. I have less hair at one front corner and this evens both brows out in seconds.

It also suits anyone who’s clocked out of reapplying by afternoon. Powder never made it past lunch on me; this held through a full day without a touch-up. And the angled brush gets you a crisper edge than any powder I’ve tried, without booking an appointment or spending hundreds of dollars.

Pomade vs. the Brow Powder I Used to Reach For

Powder gives a soft, diffused brow. The TattooStudio pomade gives a sharper, defined one. I used powder for a long, long time, and the trade-off is real: powder is more forgiving if you have a heavy hand, but it fades faster and never gave me that clean edge.

If you love the natural, fuzzy powder look, you may miss it here. But for fullness that holds all day and an edge that reads as intentional, the pomade gives me the sharp edge and all-day hold powder never did. It fills the sparse front corner and holds the edge all day, which powder never managed.

Advice Before You Start

Go lightly on your very first application. Build up, don’t blast it. You can always add more color, but pulling back dark brows is a pain. Brush your brows up with the spoolie before you touch the pigment so you can see where the gaps actually are.

Do your easier brow first to set your target, then match the opposite side to it. Layer in thin coats on any sparse front corners rather than one heavy stroke. If one side looks darker, feather a little extra onto the lighter side instead of wiping anything off.

Pros

  • Gives a clean, microbladed-looking edge with the angled brush
  • Fills sparse spots and evens out uneven brows in seconds
  • Stays on all day and doesn’t come off super easy
  • Fully buildable, layer for soft or really noticeable brows
  • A real upgrade from brow powder for fullness and wear

Cons

  • Goes on dark fast, a heavy hand on the first try means really dark brows
  • Your opposite brow is harder to do and takes practice
  • Misses the soft, diffused finish powder lovers may prefer

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the TattooStudio brow pomade last on the skin?

It’s formulated for up to 24 hours of wear. In my use it stayed on all day and didn’t come off super easy, which is exactly what powder never did for me.

Is the brow pomade waterproof?

Yes, the formula is waterproof and smudge-proof. That’s part of why it holds through a long day instead of fading by lunchtime.

Does it come with a brush or do I need to buy one?

It comes with a dual-ended applicator, so you don’t need anything extra. One end is the angled sculpting brush and the other is the spoolie for brushing brows up and blending.

What shade should I get for thinning brows over 50?

I used Soft Brown and it reads natural for filling in sparse areas. Since the pomade is buildable, you can keep it light and soft or layer it darker depending on the look you want.

How do I keep the color from looking too dark?

Use a light hand and build up gradually. The first time I pressed a little heavy and ended up with really dark brows, so thin layers are the trick.

Can I use it to fill in a brow with bald spots at the front?

Yes, that’s one of my favorite uses. I have less hair at the front of one brow and filling it in made both brows look more even.

Is it good for beginners who’ve never used a pomade?

It’s beginner-friendly once you learn to go lightly. Brush the brows up first, then apply in small amounts and layer, and you’ll get the hang of it quickly.

How do I remove it at the end of the day?

Because it’s waterproof and long-lasting, a regular cleanser may not lift it fully. An oil-based or waterproof makeup remover will take it off more easily.
