The L’Oreal Paris Faux Brow is worth buying if your brows are sparse and you want fine, hair-like strokes rather than a drawn-on block of color. The double-brush tip does the shaping for you and the formula claims up to 2-day wear. Buy it, drugstore priced, check the current price.

Sparse Brows Are the Whole Problem

Brows thin out. Mine did, and if you’re over 50 you already know the part where a pencil fills the gap but leaves a flat line of color that doesn’t look like hair at all. That’s the friction the L’Oreal Paris Faux Brow pen (see it on Amazon) is built around. It’s a drugstore-priced filling eyebrow pen with an ultra-thin ink tip, and the point of the double-brush is that one stroke lays down more than one line. So instead of coloring in a shape, you’re adding strokes that read like brow hairs.

The 0.04 fl oz barrel is slim enough that I forget it’s in my bag until I need it, which, for a daily-use pen, is exactly the point.

Shake It First. Seriously.

Shake it, hard, for a few seconds, every single time you uncap it. Skip that step and the first two or three strokes come out pale and streaky while the pigment migrates back to the tip; by then you’ve already dragged ink across a spot you didn’t mean to hit.

From there the application is light handed, gentle strokes going upward from the inner brow out to the arch, then you angle the pen slightly to define the tail. That angling bit is the part that takes a few mornings to get comfortable with. It’s not hard, it’s just a different hand motion than a pencil, and the first time through you’ll probably go heavier than you meant to. Ink doesn’t forgive like powder does.

L'Oreal Paris Faux Brow, Hair-Like, Filling Eyebrow Pen, Dark Brunette: A woman in her fifties drawing fine upward brow

Shade matters too. This one’s Dark Brunette, and with a brow pen you want to land at or just under your natural depth, because the hair-like strokes stack. Two passes over the same spot and you’ve doubled the color you intended.

What People Get Wrong About the L’Oreal Paris Faux Brow Pen

This pen fills gaps, it doesn’t build a brow from nothing. If you’ve got very little brow hair left, strokes drawn on bare skin still read as drawn on, because there’s nothing for them to blend into. This works best as filling, not replacing.

The other thing: up to 2-day wear is a claim about the formula being waterproof and transfer-resistant, not a promise your brows survive two nights on a pillow untouched. Treat it as “this won’t melt off by lunch” rather than “I can skip tomorrow.” That also means removal takes a proper waterproof cleanser, which is a real trade-off if you’re used to rinsing makeup off with water. I don’t like brows that look too fake, so I’d rather have something that stays put and needs a bit of effort coming off than something that slides around all day.

Who It Suits

If your brows are thinning but still have some hair to anchor the strokes, this is the buy: faster than a pencil, and the waterproof formula survives a sweaty workout without ghosting across your forehead. The drugstore price makes it a low-stakes test.

Skip it if you want full control to erase and rebuild as you go. Ink commits. Skip it if your brows are nearly bare, and skip it if you don’t want to keep a waterproof remover around.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you remove it at the end of the day?

Use a waterproof or oil-based makeup remover. The formula is waterproof and transfer-resistant by design, so water and a regular face wash won’t fully lift it. Hold the remover on the brow for a few seconds before wiping rather than scrubbing.

Can you use it over brow gel or powder?

Yes, but put the pen down first. Ink strokes grip bare skin and hair better than they grip a layer of powder or gel. Lay in your hair-like strokes, then set with gel on top if you want the brow brushed into place.

How long does one pen last?

L’Oreal doesn’t publish a use count, and 0.04 fl oz is a small amount of ink, so treat it as a consumable you’ll replace rather than a pencil you sharpen for a year. Cap it tightly, since an ink tip dries out faster than a wax pencil if left open.
