- need waterproof wear, since this is the washable version

I Bought It for the Wand
The wand is why I wanted to try this one. Long, narrow, spiral, nothing like the chunky brushes I keep ending up with. You can get just right up under your lash line way easier with a shape like that, and for me that’s half the battle. I’d heard a lot of good things about the Maybelline Sky High mascara before I ever opened it, so there was a bit of pressure on it.
I didn’t curl my lashes. I washed my face, put on moisturizer, and went straight in. One quick application and I loved how it was going on. That’s really pretty. No clumping, no gluing lashes together, just separated and longer looking.
Then I did the second coat, mostly out of curiosity. And that is significant. I usually only wear one coat because I don’t like them too fake looking, and two coats here still didn’t tip into fake. It just looked fuller. So maybe I should start wearing two coats.
What the Money Buys You Here
You’re paying drugstore money for a 7.1 mL tube, and the current price is on the listing since it shifts around. The thing that makes it feel worth it isn’t the formula claim, it’s that one coat does the job. If a tube only looks right at two coats, you go through it twice as fast. This one doesn’t need two. I chose two.
A lash lift runs $80, $150 and needs rebooking every six to eight weeks. This tube sits on your counter and takes thirty seconds. The result isn’t the same, lifted lashes on day one of a lash lift beat mascara, but you also don’t have to rearrange your calendar around it.
Washable Means Washable
This is the washable formula, so it comes off with your regular cleanser instead of a separate oil remover. For me that’s the right trade. I’m not fighting my lashes at the end of the night, and I’m not pulling at the skin around my eyes to get black bits off.
The flip side is the obvious one. Washable isn’t waterproof. If you’re going to a wedding where you know you’ll cry, or you swim, this isn’t the tube for that day.
Where It Sits Next to Everything Else on the Shelf
This is the lengthening side of the mascara aisle, not the big volume side. Maybelline calls it their number one mascara for lash impact and I get why, but the effect is length and separation first. If you want a false-lash, spiky, heavy look in one pass, there are fatter brushes out there built for that.
It’s also one of the few I’ve used where the narrow wand is the selling point rather than an afterthought. The L’OrΓ©al Telescopic I tried has a curved wand that does something similar for the lash line, so if you’ve liked that style of applicator you’ll get on with this one too. It’s ophthalmologist-tested and allergy-tested, which matters if you wear contacts.
Check the Shade Name Before You Pay
Read the tube properly, because I couldn’t. Mine is a very black black and I thought it said something like cobalt black, but I didn’t have my glasses on, and there are nine shades including Cosmic Black, Blackest Black and Very Black. They’re not interchangeable and they all look identical in a photo.
Start with one coat. If it’s enough, you’ve got a mascara that stretches your tube further than most. If you add the second and still don’t tip into fake-looking, that’s the real win here, and it’s what happened to me. The narrow wand reaching the inner corners is the reason to choose this one over the dozen other drugstore options.
