Laura Geller Baked Balance-N-Glow Illuminating Powder Foundation is worth buying if you want light to medium coverage that still lets your skin show through, not a mattified mask. In my split-face test it evened my tone and softened fine lines without hiding them, which is the main reason I keep reaching for it during the day.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.
Quick Verdict
I did one side of my face, then the other, and the coverage side still looked like my own skin, just smoother. That split-face comparison is the whole reason this one stays in my daytime rotation instead of getting swapped for something heavier.
Buy if you:
- want your skin to show through instead of a matte mask
- have sensitive skin or rosacea and heavier foundations irritate you
- want a daytime look, not full evening glam coverage
- already pair it with a concealer for spot coverage
Skip if you:
- need full, opaque coverage for scarring or deep discoloration in one layer
- want a totally matte finish with zero glow
- are hoping one product also fixes vertical lip lines (that’s a separate Laura Geller product)

One Side of My Face Told the Whole Story
I did my moisturizer first like always, then went straight into the Laura Geller Balance-N-Glow, and the plan was simple: one side of my face first so you could actually see the difference. The marbled pan isn’t just cosmetic, those swirled pigment tones are what let the powder self-adjust across different areas of your face instead of reading as one flat colour. On camera the covered side evened out against the bare side without looking caked, and I didn’t have to squint to see the difference, it was immediate.
Light to Medium Build Is Exactly What It Sounds Like

Light to medium buildable means exactly what it sounds like: your skin still shows up to work. For mature skin that’s the point, a flat matte finish settles into fine lines and reads older, not younger, and this powder avoids that problem on camera and in person. What I put on for the video is pretty much the amount I’d wear out during the day, and I still look like myself, just a little better, my skin reads a little smoother. If I were heading out in the evening I’d build a second light layer, but I’m not reaching for three passes of this just to leave the house for errands.
It Doesn’t Touch Lip Lines, and That’s Not Its Job
This isn’t a line filler, so don’t buy it expecting it to smooth vertical lines above the lip the way a dedicated product does. I mentioned I’d used Laura Geller’s fine line filler before this and it filled in my straw lines, which was great, but that’s a separate step done before foundation, not something Balance-N-Glow is built for. Where this powder falls short is on anything needing heavier correction, like deeper discoloration. I used the Laura Geller concealer on top for the spots and under my eyes because the foundation alone, being light to medium, wasn’t going to erase that on its own.
What to Know Before You Order the Fair Shade
I tested the 02 Fair shade with neutral undertones, and if your tone runs warmer or deeper you’ll want to check Laura Geller’s full shade range rather than assuming Fair works for you. The compact is small, 3 x 3 x 1 inches, so it travels fine in a makeup bag. I pair it every day with the matching concealer for spot coverage, and together they’re the two products I reach for during the day. Blending matters here more than with a liquid, you just gotta blend, blend, blend with a sponge or brush to avoid any marbled streaking showing up on your skin.
Pros
- Coverage looked noticeably more even in my split-face comparison
- Light to medium build means I still look like myself during the day
- Glowy, dewy finish instead of flat matte
- Pairs well with the Laura Geller concealer for spot coverage
- Compact size travels easily
Cons
- Doesn’t address vertical lip lines, you need a separate line filler for that
- Light to medium build isn’t enough alone for deeper discoloration, concealer is required
- Requires real blending effort to avoid the marbled pigment showing streaks
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Laura Geller Balance-N-Glow work over sunscreen or just moisturizer?
I only applied it over moisturizer in my test, so I can’t speak to how it sits over sunscreen specifically. What I can tell you is that powders grip best once any base layer, moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, has fully sunk in and stopped feeling slick on the skin, so give it two to three minutes before you pick up the brush.
Can this replace a separate concealer entirely?
No, not in my experience. I used the Laura Geller concealer under my eyes and on areas of discoloration after the foundation, because the light to medium build wasn’t enough on its own for those spots.
Is the Fair shade true to typical fair/light undertones?
In my test it read as a neutral fair shade that matched my skin without an obvious pink or yellow cast. If you’re between shades, it’s worth checking swatches since I only tested the one.
