The L’Oréal Telescopic Extensionist Mascara is worth buying if you want a curved wand that gets close to your lash line without clumping. Two coats gave a lifted, separated, natural-with-a-boost look and there’s no smell to it either. Buy it.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.
Quick Verdict
One fast coat, no curler, and it still lifted and separated without a hint of clumping. Second coat pushed it from “gotta go to the gym” to a look with a little more boom, and I called it a keeper on camera.
Buy if you:
- skip the eyelash curler and want the mascara to do the lifting
- struggle getting thick round wands close to your lash line
- want a natural look with the option to build to two coats
- rotate mascaras every couple of months anyway
Skip if you:
- need major length claims backed by a curler-and-two-coat routine the formula alone can’t match
- want a thick, dramatic volumizing effect from just one pass
- are set on a specific barrel shape, since this one has a noticeable arc to it
The Wand Shape Changed How Close I Could Get
The arc wand isn’t a gimmick, it’s what makes this mascara easier to use than every chunky round brush I’ve tested. That slight curve lets you press right into the lash line without the barrel blocking your view or catching the skin above. Most mascaras force you to tilt the whole wand to compensate. This one didn’t.
If you want to try the L’Oréal Telescopic Extensionist Mascara for yourself, this is the wand shape doing most of the work before the formula even comes into play.
One Fast Coat Gave Me the Gym Look

I didn’t add an eyelash curler first, which I probably should do more often, but I usually just let the mascara do the lifting on its own. I applied one quick coat, like I was running out the door, and that looked pretty good on its own. No clumping, lashes lifted and separated nicely. That’s the fast, gotta-go-to-the-gym version of this mascara, and it held up fine without any extra effort from me.
Two Coats Is Where It Gets a Little Boom
I went back over with a second coat and that’s when things shifted from natural to natural-with-a-little-boom. I generally prefer a natural look, but two coats gave just enough extra lift, curl, and volume without tipping into anything heavy or clumpy. There’s no smell to the formula either, which matters more than people think when you’re applying something this close to your eyes. Two coats is the move unless you’re genuinely running out the door, at which point one coat delivers enough lift that you won’t feel underdressed.
Who This Actually Works For
This one earned a spot in my two-month mascara rotation, and that rotation is ruthless. If you want a mascara that gets close to your lash line without fighting a big round wand, lifts without clumping, and gives you the option to dial it up to two coats for a bit more drama, this is worth a try. If you’re chasing dramatic length claims that require a curler and heavy layering, this formula alone probably isn’t going to get you there.
Pros
- Curved wand gets close to the lash line without catching
- No clumping across two coats
- Lifts and separates lashes without needing a curler first
- No noticeable smell
- Works as a quick one-coat option or a buildable two-coat look
Cons
- One coat alone is subtle, closer to a natural everyday look than dramatic length
- The arc-shaped wand may feel different if you’re used to round brushes
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this mascara work without an eyelash curler?
Yes, I skipped the curler entirely and the mascara still lifted and separated my lashes on its own in both the one-coat and two-coat applications. If you already curl your lashes, this would likely add even more lift on top, but it’s not required to get a decent result.
How often should I replace this mascara?
I personally switch mascaras every couple of months regardless of brand, and that’s a good general rule for any mascara to avoid eye irritation or bacteria buildup. This one didn’t show signs of drying out or clumping during my test, but that’s not a long-term durability claim.
Is this mascara noticeable for a natural, no-makeup look?
One coat gives a subtle, natural lift that reads like you barely did anything, which is why I called it the “gotta go” look. Two coats pushes it a bit further with more curl and volume, so you can dial the intensity up or down depending on the day.
