The Maybelline TattooStudio Brow Pomade Long Lasting is worth buying if you’ve been filling brows with powder and wish it actually filled them in. The putty texture grips sparse spots in one light pass. Buy it, knowing it goes darker than you intend if you load the brush at all.

How this review was made: written from my own video review of this product. Every opinion here is my own, from using it myself.
Quick Verdict
I barely touched the pot and my first brow came out darker than I meant it to. That’s the whole review in one sentence: it fills in better than any powder I’ve used, and it rewards a light hand. Shade 380 Deep Brown, and yes, I had to lift some back off.
Buy if you:
- fill with powder and it never quite fills the sparse spots
- have deeper natural brows and need a true deep brown
- want a brush and spoolie in one tool, no extra brush to buy
- like a putty texture over a liquid or a pencil
Skip if you:
- rush your makeup, because I overdid one brow on the very first pass and had to work some back off
- want a soft, barely-there brow with no attention required
- prefer something you can swipe on in the car without a mirror

I Thought It Was a Powder. It’s Putty.
I opened the pot expecting a powder and got something closer to putty. Not liquid, not cream, a soft putty you press the brush into. That one detail changed how the whole thing behaved on my brows, and it’s why the Maybelline TattooStudio Brow Pomade Long Lasting on Amazon isn’t a straight swap for the powder sitting in your drawer.
I picked 380 Deep Brown because my natural brows are quite a bit deeper than most of the “soft brown” shades out there. Good call on the shade. Possibly too good, as you’ll see.
The Brush Does Two Jobs
One tool, spoolie on one end, thin angled brush on the other. You brush your brow hairs up first, then fill in with the other end. That’s it. No separate spoolie to dig out of a drawer, which I appreciated more than I expected to.
So I did one brow only to start, just to get a feeling for it. I’d never used this before, and I’ve learned the hard way to do a little bit at a time with any brow product. That habit saved me, sort of.
I Barely Touched It and It Went On That Well
The first stroke got an out-loud “ooh, I really like this” out of me. I have been typically using powder with a brush just like this one, and powder doesn’t fill in like that. It skims. This gripped the sparse parts and laid actual color down.
And that’s the catch, right there in the same breath. I barely added any product and I’d already gone darker than I meant to. Not disaster-dark. Just strong-brow-kind-of-day dark, the kind where your brows are clearly the first thing anyone notices. That’s fine if you want it. I didn’t, not on a Tuesday.

So I worked some back off. It does come off, which was a relief. It got closer, still a touch darker than I’d choose, but not too bad at all. The second brow I went lighter from the start and that one was perfect. Exactly where I’d want it. So the technique is real simple: less product than feels right, then build. This is a buildable eyebrow formula in the truest sense, and buildable only works if you start low.
I also noted I might add a little powder over the top to soften things, which is funny given I came here to replace the powder.
Where This Sits Against Powders and Brow Mascaras
I’ve used a lot of different brow products, from brow mascaras to brow powders, and this is the first pot pomade I’ve reached for. Brow mascara tints the hair you already have. Powder shades the gaps softly and politely. A pomade like this one deposits real pigment into the gaps, which is why it looked fuller in one pass and also why it ran away from me on brow one.
If you used to ignore your brows like I did for years, that pigment is the point, and it’s why this outperforms powder for sparse spots. Powder softens; this fills. Those are different things, and the difference shows in the mirror immediately.
On pricing: the Amazon rank and 600+ units bought last month tell you this isn’t a cult oddity, people are actually buying it. It’s also fluctuated enough that the link price is worth checking before you assume you’re getting the standard rate.
The Part That Annoyed Me
Taking product back off is fiddly. I wasn’t sure exactly how to do it and had to keep going at it for a bit before the brow looked closer to where I wanted. It does lift, it just doesn’t lift instantly or evenly, and you’re doing it on a brow you’ve already shaped. That’s a few extra minutes you won’t love on a weekday morning.
The other open question is wear time. It’s a brow pomade long-lasting claim of 24 hours, and I can’t confirm that from one application. I said on camera I’d do another video on how long it actually stayed on as a separate test, not a footnote here.
Pick Your Shade Deeper Than You Think, Then Use Less
Shade down, hand light. That’s the buying advice. I took 380 Deep Brown for naturally deeper brows and the depth was right; the amount I used wasn’t. If you’re between shades and your brows run deep, the deeper one still works because you control intensity with pressure, not with a lighter color.
Do one brow first. Look at it. Then do the other. That’s how I caught my own overload and got brow two right. And if you’ve been nursing a powder pot that never quite fills anything in, this is the TattooStudio brow pomade on Amazon I’d point you to first.
Pros
- Fills sparse spots in one light pass where my powder only skimmed
- Putty texture that grips instead of dusting off
- Dual-ended brush and spoolie means no second tool
- 380 Deep Brown is a true deep shade for darker natural brows
- Product can be worked back off if you overdo it
Cons
- Goes darker than intended fast; I overshot with barely any product
- Removing excess is fiddly and took me several passes
- 24-hour wear claim is still unverified from a single first use
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it come off with regular face wash?
It’s marketed as waterproof and smudge-proof, so plan on a makeup remover or cleansing balm rather than plain soap and water. I was able to lift wet product off during application, but that’s a different thing from removing it at the end of the day after it’s set.
Can I use my own angled brush instead of the one included?
Yes, any stiff angled brow brush works. The included one is nice and thin and the spoolie end is useful, so I didn’t feel the need to swap. If you already own a finer brush you like, use it, especially since finer bristles pick up less product.
How long does one pot last?
Longer than you’d expect from the size, because the amount per use is tiny. I barely touched the surface and had enough pigment for a full brow and then some. Keep the lid sealed; putty formulas firm up if they’re left open.
Will it work over brow hairs that are grey or coarse?
The pomade sits on skin and hair both, so it coats coarse hairs better than a powder does. Brush up with the spoolie end first so the pigment reaches the skin underneath. I’d still go lighter than you think on the first pass.
