The Laura Geller Line Smoother is worth buying if you have visible vertical lines above your lip and want them blurred before makeup, not just covered. It’s a thick gel that sets in about a minute and visibly filled in my straw lines on camera. Buy it for targeted touch-ups, not as an all-over face primer.

Quick Verdict
I watched my own straw lines fill in and blur before my eyes, no makeup involved, and it still blows my mind. It’s thick, it’s slow to pump out, and it stays tacky longer than I’d like, but on targeted lines it works faster than any primer I’ve tried.
Buy if you:
- have vertical straw lines or smoker’s lines above your lip
- want a targeted fix rather than an all-over primer
- wear light foundation or tinted moisturizer over primer
- want brightening from Vitamin C and Niacinamide, not just blur
Skip if you:
- are impatient, because this comes out of the tube slowly and stays tacky after a full minute
- want a lightweight primer, since this formula is thick
- need a full-face primer rather than a spot treatment for lines

The Straw Lines Above My Lip Were the Real Test
I filmed this with zero makeup on, pointed the camera right at the lines above my lip that I call Straw Lines (some people call them Smoker’s Lines), and said the quiet part out loud: they really bother me. That’s the whole reason I grabbed the Laura Geller Line Smoother in the first place, and you can find it here if you want to see the tube up close. I pushed a little out onto my fingertip first just so the camera could see it, and it’s quite thick, almost reluctant to come out of the tube. I patted it straight into the vertical lines on one side, then did the other side with a little extra product, and just waited.
How Long It Takes to Actually Blur a Line
About a minute, that’s what I saw on camera, not a marketing number I’m repeating. I said “just give it a minute to dry” and kept talking while it set, and when I looked back at the lines they were already filling in. I said, “can you see already? Like I can see it already working,” and I wasn’t performing that for the camera. It still had a tacky feel when I touched it, so it’s not a flash-dry primer, it’s a slow fill-and-set.
Does It Actually Blur Fine Lines, or Just Mask Them?

The difference between blurring and masking is what midday looks like, a concealer parked in a crease migrates and makes the line more visible by noon. This one filled in from the inside; watching it on my own skin, the line narrowed as the gel set rather than just getting buried under product that would slip later. I’ve tried a lot of different primers over the years, and this is the first one where I said on camera, unscripted, that it’s probably the best thing I’ve seen for filling in fine lines and wrinkles. That’s not a small claim for me to make after trying so many.
One Tube, One Applicator, No Real Setup
There’s no routine to learn here, you apply it to clean dry skin, pat it into the lines you want smoothed, and wait. The cooling metal applicator on the tube is a nice touch I didn’t expect, it feels different from the plastic wand tips most primers ship with. The only friction in the whole process is that the gel is slow to come up out of the tube, thick enough that I had to push harder than I expected before any product appeared. Once it’s out, application takes seconds. After the minute of set time I planned to follow with a light moisturizer, a tinted moisturizer, or a really light foundation, since this isn’t meant to be worn alone as a finished look.
Who This Primer Actually Makes Sense For
It’s built for the lines around the mouth and eyes, not a full-face smoothing primer for someone without visible texture. If your main concern is straw lines, smoker’s lines, or deeper creases in a specific spot, this is a spot treatment that earns its place there. If you want an all-over pore blur, this isn’t it, you’d be buying a spot treatment and using 10% of what it’s designed for. For me, at 35-plus with straw lines that show bare-faced on camera, it’s the first primer I’d actually repurchase, not because I reviewed it, but because I watched it work in under a minute on my own skin.
Pros
- Visibly blurred my straw lines within about a minute, on camera, with no makeup underneath
- Cooling metal applicator feels different from standard plastic wand primers
- Contains Vitamin C and Niacinamide, so it’s working on texture, not just masking it
- Works well as a targeted spot treatment layered under light foundation or tinted moisturizer
Cons
- Gel is thick and slow to come out of the tube
- Still felt tacky to the touch even after the full minute set time
- Not built as an all-over face primer, it’s meant for targeted lines
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Line Smoother under any foundation?
Yes, but go light. A thick full-coverage foundation on top of a thick primer can feel heavy, so a light moisturizer, tinted moisturizer, or a sheer foundation layers best over it.
Does it work on deeper wrinkles or just fine lines?
It was tested here on vertical straw lines above the lip, which are fine but noticeable lines, and it filled those in well.
How long does one 15g tube typically last with daily spot use?
Applied only to the lines above my lip, I used a rice-grain amount per side, at that rate a 15g tube should easily last three to four months of daily use, far longer than any full-face primer of the same size.
