The Olehenriksen Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Creme is worth buying if you want a rich night cream that uses bakuchiol instead of retinol. It sinks in rather than sitting on top, and it targets fine lines, dark spots and dull texture. Buy it for nightly use, skip it if you want fast results.

It Looks Kind of Nice and Rich

When I twisted the jar open, the cream inside had real weight to it, dense, pale, nothing like the watery night creams that evaporate the second they touch skin. That’s not nothing. A lot of night creams look thick in the jar and then disappear into water the second they hit your face. This one has a weight to it, and when I worked it in, it felt like it was really sinking into my pores rather than sitting on top of my skin.

The scent is faint and clean, close enough to nothing that I didn’t notice it after the first night. What I did notice is how quickly it settled: no greasy film on the pillowcase, no tacky feeling twenty minutes later. For a cream this dense, that’s the part that surprised me most.

Night One With the Jar

There’s no routine to learn here. Open the jar, press a fingertip-sized amount into clean skin, go to sleep. That’s the whole protocol, no serum to layer under it, no wait time, no 7am cleanup. For a cream carrying bakuchiol, lactic acid, and glycolic acid, the simplicity is a genuine selling point.

The one catch with a jar this size is the 12-month period after opening. If you’re a once-a-week person, you’ll be throwing some of it out. This is a cream that wants to be used nightly, and the cost only makes sense if you treat it that way.

How This Bakuchiol Night Cream Compares to Retinol

Bakuchiol works slower than retinol but won’t leave your face tight or angry, the trade-off you’re paying for is gentler, and it actually sticks. Ole Henriksel pairs it with lactic acid and glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the surface, plus edelweiss stem cell extract, grape seed oil and shea butter on the moisturizing side. No parabens, no sulfates, no harsh alcohols.

After a month of nightly use, the clearest wins were texture and tone, skin looked less uneven in the morning, and the tight, flaky reaction I used to get from retinol serums never showed up once. Fine lines are a slower story; don’t expect before-and-after photos at week two. What you’re trading for that gentleness is time, and you need to be genuinely okay with that before you open the jar.

It’s not a quick fix. I used it for a month straight to see how it looks after 30 days, and that’s the shortest timeline worth judging it on. If you want something that changes your face by Friday, this isn’t it.

Living With It After the First Week

A 1.7 oz jar used every single night is where the cost conversation actually lives. Jar packaging means fingers in the product, so I’m careful with clean hands, and the lid goes back on properly so the actives aren’t sitting open on the counter. The jar is small, so it tucks into a drawer or a travel bag without any thought.

Nothing to replace, no refill system, no second step you have to buy. Check the current price before you commit, because it moves around a fair bit depending on where you buy it.

Before You Buy It

There’s one size, so the decision is simpler than most skincare buys. What you’re really deciding is whether you’ll commit to 30 nights. So far it feels great, and I’ll definitely continue using it, but I’m not going to tell you my fine lines vanished after a few applications, because that’s not how bakuchiol works.

If retinol has been making your skin angry and you want something rich that sinks in and lets you sleep on it, this is an easy one to try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it with my regular vitamin C serum in the morning?

Yes, because this is a night-only cream, so the two never overlap on your face. Just don’t stack it with another exfoliating acid at night.

Is it cruelty-free and reef safe?

Yes, per Ole Henriksel. It’s also made in the USA and formulated without parabens, sulfates or harsh alcohols. Worth knowing if that’s a filter you shop with.

Will it work on oily or combination skin, or is it too heavy?

It’s formulated for normal, oily, combination and dry skin. It is a rich texture, so if you’re oily you’ll likely want a thinner layer rather than the full scoop. The lactic and glycolic acids help with surface texture, which oily skin usually appreciates.
