Quick Verdict

I slipped these on with zero break-in and walked straight out the door. The Aerosoles Women’s Day Drive runs true to my size nine, the insole is cushy and squishy under the foot, and the silver buckle on the front reads as cute, not fussy. The one catch: skip the thick sports sock if you buy true to size.

Buy if you:

  • Want a flat you can wear barefoot with jeans in the fall
  • Hate breaking shoes in and want them comfortable day one
  • Want a wide enough toe box that won’t pinch
  • Move between work and errands in the same pair

These Were a Barefoot-with-Jeans Pickup

I pulled the Women’s Day Drive out of the box and the silver buckle stopped me cold, on a comfort flat, that’s not supposed to happen. Most shoes in this category nail the insole and phone in the design; this one looked like something I’d actually choose, not just tolerate. If you’ve been stuck choosing between cute and comfortable, check the current price on Amazon here.

I’m not someone who oohs over every shoe. But the buckle on the front got me right away. It’s silver, not gold, which is nice, and it gives the whole thing a slightly cooler, less plain look than most flats in this lane.

The Silver Buckle and What’s Under It

The Day Drive is a lightweight black driving flat with a silver front buckle. That buckle is the design detail I keep coming back to. It makes the shoe look kind of cool instead of just functional, and it’s a clean silver tone rather than the shiny gold you see on a lot of comfort flats.

A stiff flat fights your foot with every step; this one bends with you from the first stride. The insole backs that up, it’s genuinely squishy underfoot, not just padded-enough-to-say-so, which is what actually makes you forget you have shoes on by the end of the day.

The Sole Surprised Me on Grip

The grip is better than I expected from a shoe this cute. Flipping it over, the tread sticks up partway across the bottom, and there’s a little extra on the heel. So if you’re on ice or a slick sidewalk, you’ve got something to hold onto instead of skating across the parking lot.

The toe box is the other real-world win. It’s nice and wide enough so it doesn’t pinch your toes, which is where a lot of driving-style flats fall apart. Between the flexible upper and the squishy insole, walking around in these felt easy from the first step. I didn’t need to break them in or anything.

Fit-wise, I thought they were very true to size. Sometimes a nine can run a little bigger, but this one is definitely a nine. That’s a good and a bad thing depending on how you buy, which brings me to the one thing worth knowing before you order.

The Sock Rule You Can’t Ignore

Because they run true to size, a thick sock changes everything. The one thing I will say is that these are definitely not for a sports-style sock if you’re buying true to size. There just isn’t room for a bulky athletic sock without the fit getting snug.

So here’s how I actually wear them. I’ll either go barefoot, which I like to do sometimes with jeans, or I’ll pair them with a really thin sock. That keeps the true-to-size fit feeling right instead of cramped. If you’re a die-hard thick-sock person, you’d want to size up, and then you’d lose the nice snug fit I liked. It’s worth knowing before you order: skip thick socks at true size, or size up and accept a looser fit.

Who These Are Really For

The Day Drive earns its keep on the commute-to-errands loop that kills most flats. The black upper disappears under jeans in a way that reads as an outfit rather than an afterthought, and because there’s zero break-in, you’re not mentally rationing steps to avoid blisters. You put them on and stop thinking about your feet.

They also suit anyone who’s tired of the break-in period. I didn’t have to suffer through a week of blisters to get them comfortable. If you’ve settled before for a frumpy comfort shoe just so your feet wouldn’t hurt, this women day flat is the middle ground between cute and cushy that’s hard to find.

Day Drive vs. a Plain Comfort Flat

The Day Drive wins on looks over most basic comfort flats. A lot of all-day comfort shoes get the cushy insole right and then stop caring about how they look, so you end up with something round-toed and forgettable. The silver buckle and the black upper here give it a little more polish, so it reads as a real outfit shoe rather than a slipper you’re allowed to leave the house in.

Where a plain comfort flat can win: room for socks. Many of those roomier styles let you jam in a thicker sock without a fight. The Day Drive doesn’t, because of that true-to-size fit. So if your priority is thick socks over a slim look, a plainer flat might serve you better. For everyone else, I’d take the polish.

What I’d Tell You Before Ordering

Order your normal size. My nine fit like a nine, so there’s no need to size up hoping for extra room, and no need to size down expecting them to run big. Just buy your usual and plan around a bare foot or a thin sock.

Skip the guessing games with socks. If you already know you live in thick athletic socks, either these aren’t your pair or you’re sizing up and accepting a looser fit. And if you were hoping for a gold buckle, note again that this one is silver. For me the silver actually looked cooler, but it’s worth knowing so you’re not surprised at the door. Pros

  • Cushy, squishy insole that’s comfortable to walk on right away
  • Flexible upper that bends with your foot instead of fighting it
  • Wide enough toe box so it doesn’t pinch
  • Good grip with extra tread on the heel for ice
  • Silver front buckle that gives it a cooler look, plus true-to-size fit and no break-in

Cons

  • True-to-size fit means no room for a thick sports-style sock
  • Buckle is silver only, so no gold option if that’s your preference
  • A cushioned flat, not a high-support shoe for long high-impact days

Frequently Asked Questions

Do the Aerosoles Women’s Day Drive run true to size?

Yes, they run true to size. My size nine fit like a proper nine, not a roomy nine, so order your usual size. If you always wear thick socks, that’s the only reason you’d consider sizing up.

Can I wear socks with these?

A thin sock, yes. A thick sports-style sock, no, at least not at true size. I wear them barefoot with jeans or with a really thin sock so the fit stays right.

Do they need to be broken in?

No break-in needed. They were comfortable from the first wear, thanks to the flexible upper and the cushy insole. No blister week required.

Is the buckle silver or gold?

Silver. It’s a clean silver tone on the front, not gold, which I liked because it looked a little cooler and less flashy. If you specifically wanted gold, that’s worth knowing before you order.

Are they slippery on ice or wet ground?

They have decent grip for a dressy flat. The tread sticks up partway across the sole with a bit extra on the heel, so they hold on better than a smooth-bottomed shoe. They’re still a flat, not a winter boot, so don’t treat them like ice cleats.

Will these work for standing all day at work?

They’re comfortable for a mix of walking and errands thanks to the squishy insole. They’re a cushioned flat, though, not a heavy-duty support shoe, so an all-day shift on hard concrete would push their limits. For a typical work-plus-errands day, they held up fine for me.

What do they look good with?

Jeans, especially in the fall. The black upper goes with basically everything in your closet, so they pair easily with casual and slightly dressier outfits alike. The silver buckle keeps them from looking too plain.

How do I clean the black upper?

Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth to lift everyday dust and marks. Skip soaking a flat like this, since a cushioned shoe doesn’t love being drenched. Let them air dry away from direct heat.
