My hair was just dry and straightened with a blow dryer, no flat iron, and it can naturally be a teeny bit wavy, and three curls per side gets it done. That barrel length is the whole reason this has turned into my go-to. My hair was just dry and straightened with a blow dryer, no flat iron, and it can naturally be a teeny bit wavy. I take each section, start at the top, pull it down, hold it for a second, then let it go. If you want to see the pro spring in action, you can check the current price on Amazon.
Quick Verdict
Three curls per side, a quick finger-comb, and I’m out the door with soft curls that hold all day. The longer barrel is what sold me, and I don’t even need much hairspray to keep it.
Buy if you:
- are a 10-minute get-ready person who still wants to look put together
- want loose soft curls, not tight ringlets
- prefer a longer barrel for faster sectioning
- want curls that hold without heavy product
Skip if you:
- have short hair, since the long barrel is awkward on shorter lengths
- want tight, defined curls that stay super structured
- don’t like the spring-clamp style of iron

The Long Barrel Is Why I Reach For This One
I’m out the door in 10 minutes flat, and this iron is a big reason why. Six sections total, fingers through, done, no mirror-hovering, no second pass, no regrets.
What The Pro Spring Curling Iron Is
430Β°F max, porcelain ceramic barrel, spring clamp, built to wrap bigger sections fast. It’s built for fine, medium, and thick hair, so you’re not locked into one hair type. The version I use is the longer barrel, and that extra length lets me wrap bigger sections in fewer passes.
The one spec that actually changes how you use it: the longer barrel. Everything else is standard pro-iron territory.

My Actual Morning Curl Routine
Three curls on each side, then back to the top, and I’m done. That’s the whole thing. I start with the under layer, wrapping each section, pulling it down, holding for a second, and letting my curls cool as I go. You can see how fast this is. And I love it because it just really is a quick and easy way to make me look put together.
On the top layer I use a bit more care because that’s the part that gets the sun and can be a little frizzier. I use a heat shield spray on that upper layer for some protection from the heat. I also like the smell of it, it smells really good on my hair.
One thing I’ve noticed with my own hair is I always have one side that holds just a little better than the other. That’s not the iron, that’s just the way my hair is. So I do three curls per side, go back and do the top part, and then run my fingers through it. If I really need my hair to stay in tighter for the day, like if I have something special, I’ll add some hairspray. But I don’t usually use a lot of hairspray, and it still holds.
The Bangs And The Back Are On You

The iron won’t decide your style for you, and that’s worth knowing. I tend to leave my bangs a little straighter because I don’t like curled bangs on myself. I only curl them if they’re crazy, and on the day I filmed they’d actually kind of gone nice on their own, so I left them.
The back is the part that takes the most patience. When I looked at the back mid-routine I’d done nothing there, and you could see how straight it still was. It’s just harder to reach and wrap those pieces than the sides. That’s not a flaw of the iron, but it’s the reason the whole thing takes a couple extra minutes than the “three each side” makes it sound. Worth knowing if you’re expecting the back to happen effortlessly.

Who This Is Actually For
This iron earns its place for one specific person: someone with medium-to-long hair who wants a polished look and refuses to trade sleep for it. The longer barrel is the reason, bigger sections per wrap means fewer passes, and for fine-to-thick hair that math works out to six curls and a finger-comb. If that’s not your morning, it’s not your iron.
If you love tight, structured ringlets that stay defined all day, this leans toward looser, softer curls instead. And if you have shorter hair, the long barrel is going to feel like a lot to wrap. But for the everyday “I want to look nice and be out the door” morning, this is right in the pocket.
A Few Tips Before You Curl
Let each curl cool before you touch it. I leave mine alone as I move to the next section, and that’s what helps them hold. Use a heat shield on your top layer since that’s the part that sees the sun and gets frizzier. And go easy on the hairspray, a medium spray you can still work with once it’s on is all you need for most days. Save the heavier hold for when you’ve got something special.
When you’re finished, just run your fingers through to loosen everything into soft curls. You can brush it out for an even softer look, or add spray if you need it tighter. Either way, you end up put together for the day.
Pros
- Longer barrel makes sectioning fast, three curls per side and done
- Soft curls that hold all day without heavy product
- Works on fine, medium, and thick hair
- Quick enough for a 10-minute get-ready routine
- Curls stay put with just a light medium-hold spray, or none
Cons
- The back is harder to reach and takes extra patience
- Long barrel is awkward on shorter hair
- Gives loose soft curls, not tight defined ringlets
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the pro spring curling iron work on thick hair?
Yes, it’s rated for fine, medium, and thick hair. With the 430-degree heat and the longer barrel, thick hair gets covered in fewer sections, which speeds things up.
Do the curls hold without hairspray?
Mine do. I don’t usually use a lot of hairspray and my curls stay soft all day. I only add a medium-hold spray when I need it tighter for something special.
Is this the long barrel or short barrel version?
I use the longer-barreled one and prefer it. The extra length lets you wrap bigger sections at once, which is faster. If you have shorter hair, a shorter barrel may be easier to handle.
What kind of curls does it make?
Loose, soft curls rather than tight ringlets. After curling I run my fingers through to loosen them into a soft, put-together look. If you want structured spirals, this isn’t that style.
Should I use a heat protectant with it?
I use a heat shield spray, especially on my top layer since it gets the sun and can be frizzier. At 430 degrees a protectant is a smart step for the outer layers.
How long does it take to curl a full head?
Not long. I do three curls per side, then the top layer, and I’m the kind of person who’s out the door in about 10 minutes. The back takes the most patience since it’s the hardest to reach.
Is the porcelain ceramic barrel better than metal?
Porcelain ceramic heats smoothly and helps minimize frizz, which is why my curls come out soft instead of frazzled. It’s a gentler surface on the hair than plain metal barrels.
Can I curl my bangs with it?
You can, but I usually leave my bangs straighter because I don’t like curled bangs on myself. I only curl them if they’re going crazy that day. It’s a personal styling choice, not a limitation.
